It seems that the only way to make this locked status last less time
is to optimize the scripts that are guarded by this lock. I don't know
if they've already been profiled nor whether there are any low hanging
fruits in this area.
In the meantime, I made the cronjob run every 30 minutes instead of
every 5 minutes, which should mitigate the problem. Please let us know
how painful this problem still is.
