Subject: [mat-dev] Deprecation of the Nautilus extension
Hello everyone,

Nautilus 43 changed its API, breaking mat2's extension in the process[1].
I've given some thoughts about it, and I don't think I will port it to
the new API, for 3 main reasons:

- The new Nautilus version is slow, I don't like it, I'm not using it
anymore.
- Romain Vigier (in Cc:) wrote and is maintaining "Metadata Cleaner"[2],
which is using mat2 under the hood. It's packaged in Debian, and present
in Tails[3]. Romain has been nothing but a tremendous user of mat2, and
a great upstream.
- I never actually used the Nautilus extension, so my motivation to
maintain it is low.

If you're a mat2-Nautilus-extension user, please do voice your concerns
here or in the associated bug[4]. Should no credible reason be raised
against its deprecation, the next mat2 release, likely in January, will
ship without it.

Thanks
