In a bug report, a user complained about the duplicates between the
System Tools and Tails menu. He proposed to have them only in the Tails
menu. I agree with that proposal.
I thought that those duplicates were there on purpose. But intrigeri
told me that indeed they were there because there was no easy way to
have them only in the Tails menu at the time it was implemented. And
since then nobody has shown how it can be done better. Quoting him:
But at .deb creation / installation time (I don't remember at which
exact step this is blocking), it does not exist yet, so at least one
existing menu must be listed in the application (t-p-s etc.) .desktop
file, and that's why I've added the System one IIRC. Ugly, but this is
the kind of things it's easy to let pass through when you're stuck to
deadlines and contracts -- I'm sorry about that :(
If we're really annoyed by the duplicates, and nobody steps up to
implement the Right Thing™, then I would find it acceptable to drop
the "Tails" menu, and only display these launchers in "System Tools".
This should be entirely trivial."
My proposal is: either someone commits to implement the Right Thing™,
or we create a todo/remove_the_Tails_menu ticket (that I'm happy to
see assigned to me). »
So, anyone feels like it is worth working on removing the duplicates in
the System Tools menu?
