Digital DJ license
By MargreetGroenenboom
The English collecting society PPL (Phonograms Performance Limited)
has recently introduced the so-called Digital DJ license. Many DJ's
want to store digital copies of legitimately acquired vinyl or CD's on
their laptop and play those during DJ sets in clubs. The storage of
20.000 tracks will cost a DJ (including VAT) 235 English pounds.
At the moment DJ's may store the sound recordings in any digital
format. In the future however, PPL will require the stored sound
recordings to be protected by DRM.
