Hi, Tails Team! I'm really glad to see 7.0~rc1 go live. I've tested it for a bit, so here's what I found.
# Apps
## GNOME Files (Nautilus)
- Self-uncompressing archives: new default behavior for double-clicking the archive (zip, 7zip, etc.) is uncompressing itself into the current working folder rather than opening it with File Roller -- default behavior in 6.X.
IMO opening files with archive manager is handier and more convenient, but the final decision should be made by UX team, I guess
- Inserting an USB drive doesn't show any notifications anymore. I know it's an upstream GNOME behavior, but maybe
UX would be interested in restoring the notification pop-up
- After rebooting with Persistent Storage enabled, bookmarks of default folders ("Downloads", "Pictures", "Music", ...) are
missing, only "Persistent" bookmark is displayed (see image 1)
## GIMP
- GIMP 3.0 comes with onboarding screen when launched the first time. Looks like Inkscape is getting stripped of it, so maybe GIMP
should get the same treatment
## Audacity
- Since Pipewire update somewhere in the lifespan of 6.X, Audacity's default audio output device is set incorrectly. Setting Pipewire as the output option fixes the issue. Not super important bug, but it seems like easy one to fix
## OnionShare
- Functionality is broken. I think it started after "Upgrade to OnionShare 2.6+" (issue #20198): every service is "Starting...", but no matter the waiting time it doesn't lead to anything. I tried launching the app through console with `onionshare --verbose`, but it didn't help. The bug is reproducible on my system, but I haven't seen any Gitlab issues about that since the 2.6 upgrade, so maybe it just me. Still, after some digging it doesn't seem like OnionShare is covered by automatic (issue #12627) or manual testing (at least after quick search, please excuse me if it is)
## GnuPG Log Viewer
- Doesn't seem to work, because "the watchgnupg logging process could not be started" (see image 2). The error screen always appears, no matter if you're trying to launch it independently or through Kleopatra
- After closing the window, Log Viewer cannot be restarted -- UI does not appear, and the process itself is running in the background
## Power statistics
- This app has been in Tails since at least Debian Buster, if memory suits me well. It always gives vague or incorrect results. I wonder if it's needed for anything?
# Miscellaneous
- *Places* menu and Network Connection at Welcome Sreen still exist. Just pointing it out, I'm sure it already fixed in 7.0~rc2
- Changelog announcment at
https://tails.net/home lists Trixie's kernel version as 6.1.14, although it's actually 6.12. Again, just marking for the sake of it
I hope this mess of a bug report helps somehow. Thank you for the release, guys!
