Oggetto: [Tails-dev] [Tails News] Tails 6.4
# [Tails 6.4](https://tails.net/news/version_6.4/index.en.html)

# New features

## Random seed

Tails now stores a random seed on the USB stick to strengthen all
cryptography.

Having a [secure random number
generator](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/cryptographically%20secure%20pseudorandom%20number%20generator)
is critical to some of the cryptography used in Tails, for example, in the
Persistent Storage, Tor, or HTTPS.

This random seed is stored [outside of the Persistent
Storage](https://tails.net/contribute/design/random/) so that all users can
benefit from stronger cryptography.

# Changes and updates

* Switch to using HTTPS addresses instead of an onion addresses for the Debian and Tails APT repositories. This makes the [Additional Software](https://tails.net/doc/persistent_storage/additional_software/index.en.html) feature more reliable.

* Update _Tor Browser_ to [13.0.16](https://blog.torproject.org/new-release-tor-browser-13016).

* Update the _Tor_ client to 0.4.8.12.

* Update _Thunderbird_ to [115.12.0](https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/115.12.0/releasenotes/).

# Fixed problems

* Fix more issues when unlocking the Persistent Storage. ([#20020](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/20020), [#20344](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/20344), [#19913](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/19913))

* Fix connecting to a mobile broadband network on some hardware. ([#20291](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/20291))

* Enable again the PDF reader of _Thunderbird_ that we disabled in [Tails 6.3](https://tails.net/news/version_6.3/index.en.html) for security.

* Improve the error message of _Tails Cloner_ when the target USB stick cannot be unmounted because it is being used. ([#19253](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/19253))

* Fix the homepage of _Tor Browser_ when using the New Identity feature. This removes the error message `Tor Browser blocked your homepage from loading`. ([#20381](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/20381))

* Remove the redundant dialog when unlocking a VeraCrypt volume using the _Unlock VeraCrypt Volumes_ utility. ([#20281](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/issues/20281))

For more details, read our
[changelog](https://gitlab.tails.boum.org/tails/tails/-/blob/master/debian/changelog).

# Get Tails 6.4

## To upgrade your Tails USB stick and keep your Persistent Storage

* Automatic upgrades are available from Tails 6.0 or later to 6.4.

You can [reduce the size of the
download](https://tails.net/doc/upgrade/index.en.html#reduce) of future
automatic upgrades by doing a manual upgrade to the latest version.

* If you cannot do an automatic upgrade or if Tails fails to start after an automatic upgrade, please try to do a [manual upgrade](https://tails.net/doc/upgrade/index.en.html#manual).

## To install Tails 6.4 on a new USB stick

Follow our installation instructions:

* [Install from Windows](https://tails.net/install/windows/index.en.html)

* [Install from macOS](https://tails.net/install/mac/index.en.html)

* [Install from Linux](https://tails.net/install/linux/index.en.html)

* [Install from Debian or Ubuntu using the command line and GnuPG](https://tails.net/install/expert/index.en.html)

The Persistent Storage on the USB stick will be lost if you install instead of
upgrading.

6.4 directly:
