Dear all,
please check out the email below!
Freifunk is looking for projects to propose to students applying for
Google Summer of Code grant.

The grant comes from Google, so it is understandable that many don't
even want to touch this. Yet, over the past years this has often been
useful for funding the development of useful LibreMesh features :)

On the pad of the past meeting, Hiure, Javier and Cri started drafting
three projects:
https://pad.cas.cat/LibreMesh_meetup_2024#GSoC2024

On the Freifunk page, there are three "old but still good" LibreMesh
projects that would need a mentor (additionally to a student), find them
at the bottom of this page:
https://projects.freifunk.net/#/projects

If you want to write a new project, check out the template here:
https://github.com/freifunk/projects/blob/main/_projects/_template.md
and, if you want, share it in a pad with the rest of the community here.
Finally, and before the 6th of February, propose it as a pull request to
this repository that contains the list of the projects:
https://github.com/freifunk/projects

The projects can but do not have to be about some crazy new stuff, they
can also be improvement of something that we already have!

Hello all,

I hope you all had a good start into the new year!

We are planning to apply for the Google Summer of Code [1] again in
2024. The application period for org starts on January 22 [2].

There's one change compared to last year:

It is now possible to have even smaller projects, too. A small project
should be finished in 90 hours, compared to medium (175h) and large
(350h) projects.

All the other things stay the same:

* anyone older than 18 can get a contributor
* schedules are flexible, projects can be stretched from 10 up to 22 weeks

What needs to be done now?

In the current phase, we need to collect project ideas, because these
will feed into the evaluation of our application. We collect your ideas
at https://projects.freifunk.net/#/projects and they can be edited in
Github at https://github.com/freifunk/projects/tree/main/_projects. It's
best to use the month of January to go through your to-do lists :)

Deadline for project ideas is February 6.

If you have any questions, you can always write to me. Please pass the
info on to your communities as well!

Best regards

Andi
