Statewide coalition at Maine’s busiest intersection will demand ‘stop funding U.S. proxy war in Ukraine’
Statewide peace groups, political parties, and concerned citizens will rally in Portland on Saturday May 6 to show increasing sentiment in the U.S. to stop supporting the war in Ukraine. The costs are enormous -- $120 billion to date -- and more Mainers are speaking up to demand negotiations to end the war.
Protesters against U.S. involvement in Ukraine will gather at Woodfords Corner from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Thousands will see their messages as they pass through Maine’s busiest intersection.
Reflecting growing dissent on continuing the Ukraine war, the Portland Press Herald recently published a letter to the editor<

When we stand at these busy intersections with our peace signs, more people honk in support than I had expected. At work or among friends, people might be afraid to speak up, but when they are driving alone, I think that they feel free to express what they truly think.
We are planting the seed in people's minds that opposing this war is the right thing to do - and they don't need to hide it any more.”
