Hi,

Bug report on tails-amd64-3.0~beta3.

Very similar problems to those recorded below. Tails will not run from DVD on my laptop. The last few lines from the black tty screen before it hangs are:

(2 of 2) A start job is running for Hold until boot process finishes up (1 min 39s / no limit)
NMI watchdog: BUG: soft lockup – CPU#0 stuck for 23s! [system:14311]

The last line is repeated every few seconds.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

J M Ward

Hi,

Here’s a brief bug report.

1) I burned the ISO to DVD and booted from it, but can get no further than the initial greeter screen (Welcome to Tails!”). As you say, the format and language can’t be changed ( I am in the UK), but “Start Tails” doesn’t work either. When it is selected, the OS goes to a black tty screen and seems to start a couple of jobs, but then brings up the greeter screen again, exactly as before. When I select “Start Tails” again, the same thing happens, except that after a few seconds the mouse cursor freezes and the OS hangs completely. There is no response to any of the control-key inputs or ctrl-alt-del. I have to power the machine off with the power button.

So I can’t get any further than the start; transferring Tails to a USB flash drive is not possible. I have attached the PC spec. (from Speccy) in case it is useful.

2) When I first booted from the DVD, I had a flash drive in a USB socket ready for the Tails installation, and I noticed that the boot-up sequence was slow and rather odd. Eventually the PC came up with the standard greeter screen, as for Tails 2.11, with the button showing for the option to enable persistence data access. That shouldn’t happen for a DVD boot, obviously, and when I checked the USB drive, it did in fact have Tails 2.11 on it. My point is that I did definitely choose the PC option to boot from DVD, so there was some strange interaction in which Tails found the USB and started to use it. I’ve noticed this previously, but never reported it. I had to remove the USB drive in order to boot as described in (1) above.

I emphasise that I definitely booted from DVD.

I hope that this is useful, and look forward to trying out beta 3!
