Urgent action needed: Put out the fires!

An incredible 7,000 of you took action last year when fires started by
illegal loggers destroyed large parts of the uncontacted Awá tribe's
forest. Your emails made huge waves and the fires were brought under
control, helped by the rains.

*Now the Amazon is ablaze again, and the Awá need your help once more.*

Neighboring Indians known as the “Guajajara Guardians” are among those
fighting the fires. They are members of the Guajajara tribe who have
taken it upon themselves to patrol the forest, detect logging hotspots
and crack down on invasions, all in order to protect the uncontacted Awá.

*Olimpio, coordinator of the Guardians, told Survival: “The Awá face
genocide. Nobody has the right to take their land from them. Please help
us protect it!”*

The uncontacted Awá face catastrophe unless their land is protected.
Help us do everything we can to secure it for them, and give them a
chance to determine their own futures.

*Officials in Brazil can stop the fires. Please email them now.*

Subject: Put out the fires on uncontacted Indians' land*

Dear Minister de Moraes and Sra Suely Mara Vaz Guimarães de Araújo,

Please ensure that the fires raging in Arariboia indigenous territory in
Maranhão state are extinguished as a matter of urgency.

Without this forest, the uncontacted Awá Indians of Arariboia will be
wiped out. Uncontacted tribes are the most vulnerable peoples on the planet.

Please also support the Guajajara Guardians who are putting their lives
on the line to fight the fires, and to protect the forest for their
uncontacted Awá neighbors.

The Guardians are patrolling the land and notifying the authorities of
invasions. Their expeditions are successful, but they urgently need your
backing.

The Brazilian government has the constitutional obligation to protect
indigenous territories.

I urge you to support the Guardians and provide them with the resources,
equipment, and government agents to accompany their patrols, which they
urgently need.

There’s no time to lose: The Arariboia Awá’s survival is a matter of now
or never.

Yours sincerely,
