Oggetto: [Tails-testers] Problems with Tails 2.0 and Latitude E6440
Hello there,

I would like to report an issue I have when using Tails 2.0 . I am not
sure if tails-testers is the correct location to do that, since Tails
2.0 is already public. Nevertheless I preferred this list over Tails
whisper, so that other people facing problems might join the discussion.

So here it goes.

Our experiment includes 4 USB sticks
- stick A is blank, Kingston DTSE9 8GB
- stick B with Tails 2.0 along with a persistent partition, Kingston
DTSE9 8GB
- stick C of unknown vendor, 4GB
- stick D of unknown vendor, 4GB

and 2 laptops
- laptop A, Dell Latitude E6440
- laptop B, Dell Inspiron 1950

I downloaded tails-i386-2.0.iso and gpg verified it. Then I used dd to
burn the image on stick A.

== boot laptop A with stick A ==

( Not sure if related but this string is right before system messages:
'error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon' )

Then 'Welcome to Tails' screen comes up, I click 'Login', screen goes
dark for a second then the welcome screen comes back again. I click
'Login' again and Tails desktop shows up. Most of the times, after I
login in Desktop screen goes dark again and only this shows up 'OK
started modem manager'. If I unplug the USB the tails memory secure
deletion kicks in.

== boot laptop A with stick C ==

Same behavior as before.

I basically used stick C to lower the possibility that the problem is
caused of some stick A hardware problem.

== boot laptop A with stick D ==

Same as before.

== boot laptop A with stick B ==

This stick was basically upgraded from 1.8.2 to 2.0 using the Tails
installer functionality. Interesting thing is that laptop A recognizes
differently Tails burned with 'dd' and Tails created through the
installer: the first is just USB storage Device the second is under the
UEFI boot options 'UEFI KingstonDataTraveler 2.0PMAP' .

When I select simple USB storage I get 'Invalid partition table!'. This
resembles https://tails.boum.org/support/known_issues/#index6h2 . When I
select UEFI Tails boots but the problematic behavior shows up again.

== Boot laptop B ==

laptop B actually boots from all USB sticks.

I'm not sure if I had ever tried Tails prior to verion 2.0 in laptop A.
If that could help I could do that, although didn't easily find any
1.8.2 laying around. Are there any archives for old images?

I'd be also happy to provide more info if that's needed.

Thanks for your work in Tails,
Greetings
