It is unclear what the issue really is but I feel like I should mention
that if an external optical drive (Apple) is plugged into a Macbook that
comes with internal optical drive, it will not work.

I feel like it can but it will take quite the effort, it seems.

If this is not relevant, then don't mind me :)
