Indeed, the "Show Applications" feature seems to load lots of stuff
into memory, which isn't released immediately (and maybe is kept in
cache and never released). I guess the goal is to make the 2nd and
following uses of this feature faster, which would make sense.

Thankfully it's opt-in: if one does not use that feature, the memory
is never used as far as I can tell. This does not really qualify as
a memory leak, IMO.
