I'm not sure I understand your proposal right, so let me try to
rephrase it and I'll comment inline:

* move the new page to [[contribute/derivative]]
⇒ sounds good to me
* link to the new page from [[contribute]], in the "Relationship with
upstream" section
⇒ can live with it, sounds a bit confusing, but I'm not sure where
to link to it from [[contribute]]; perhaps "Collective process"
would be a better fit. No big deal, in practice I expect that we'll
have to point readers to that page anyway.
