Qatar: End World Cup Slavery
and Let Nepal's Workers Mourn
Sign The Petition <

Sandra,
*Qatar's preparations for the 2022 World Cup are a human rights nightmare.*
Right now, more than 1.5 million migrant workers from across southeast
Asia labor in temperatures that can soar past 48.9 degrees celsius —
their wages regularly stolen, living in squalid living conditions, and
prevented from finding better work with other employers or even leaving
Qatar to return home.
In fact, this World Cup host country has only allowed a handful of an
estimated 40,000 migrant laborers from Nepal to even return home to
mourn friends and family killed by April's massive earthquake.
*This is nothing short of modern-day slavery.* Will you speak out
against the cruel inhumanity of Qatar's World Cup preparations?
Demand that the country's leader, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa
Al-Thani, take immediate concrete action to restore the rights of
laborers and allow Nepalese workers to return home to grieve and rebuild
their country. <

This week, U.S. officials arrested several high-level World Cup
officials on bribery and corruption charges.
But far from the media spotlight in the blistering heat of work sites
across Qatar, laborers are still suffering under the Qatari government's
relentless drive to complete stadiums and other facilities ahead of the
2022 World Cup.
These conditions have already claimed the lives of an estimated 1,200
laborers since Qatar secured its bid to host one of the world's largest
sporting events. An average of two workers are killed every day.
*No person's life or basic human dignity should be sacrificed in the
name of a sporting event, but it's happening every day in Qatar.*

Qatar isn't the first to abuse and exploit the poor in order to secure
its place on the world sports stage. But right now we have *a uniquely
powerful moment* to challenge rights violations that are putting
entertainment value above respect for basic human rights.
*You can make a difference — and you can do it right now. Please add
your name to this petition for justice.*
