In particular: does 1.0.1 boot fine in the same VM? Does "failsafe"
mode help? Maybe try toggling UEFI support in the VirtualBox guest config?
@anonym: I find this weird, as #7232 says that VirtualBox
4.3.10-dfsg-1~bpo70+1 booted our UEFI test ISO just fine.
Could you please try and reproduce?
