I'll be release manager for the Tails 1.0 release. Here's the
preliminary release schedule:
2014-04-16 Feature freeze.
Tag 1.0-rc1 in Git.
Build and upload 1.0-rc1 ISO and IUK.
2014-04-17 Test 1.0-rc1.
2014-04-18 Officially release 1.0-rc1.
2014-04-27 Firefox 24.5.0 ESR sources are available.
Package and upload Firefox 24.5.0 ESR.
Tag 1.0 in Git.
Build and upload 1.0 ISO and IUK.
2014-04-28 Test 1.0.
2014-04-29 Officially release Tails 1.0.
Note that this only leaves around 9 days for translations and RC
testing, but since 1.0 essentially is a point release of 0.23, I hope
that will be enough.
Which Tails core people are available for testing on 2014-04-17 and
2014-04-28?
However, note that 2014-04-27 will be very hectic for me, with both
packaging Firefox and building the ISO + IUK on my plate. I did the same
for the 0.23 release, and that time I barely made it. Beyond that,
there's always a risk of some other last-minute issue.
If things go wrong, the 1.0 release may be in a bit of trouble, as I
will be completely unavailable from early morning 2014-04-30 until
2014-05-05. However, in that case the release could be saved if enough
Tails core people are available for testing early (CEST) 2014-04-29, as
the "official release" step I have planned for that day isn't very time
consuming.
So, in addition to the above two dates, who's available for testing on
2014-04-29 in case of a disaster?
