We are advertising for a Research Officer position within 4-year ESRC-funded project on "Experiences of Social Security and Prospects for Long Term Settlement amongst Migrants from Central Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union". We are looking for an experienced researcher in the field of geography, social anthropology, sociology or a related subject, who is able to speak an Eastern European language, who can work between different locations in Scotland.

Salary: £31,644 to £32,590 per annum (pro rata for part time staff) together with USS Pension benefits, if required.

The normal expectation is that the successful applicant will be appointed to the minimum of the scale with annual increments on 1 October each year (subject to completing six months service).

This post is fixed term until 3 November 2017 and the postholder will be expected to be based in Aberdeenshire for at least 24 months.

Main Purpose of the Post

Swansea University, College of Science has been successful in obtaining funding from the Economic and Social Research Council for a longitudinal qualitative research project to explore 'Experiences of social security and prospects for long-term settlement in Scotland amongst migrants from Central Eastern Europe and Former Soviet Union'. The postholder will work with a team of researchers at the Centre for Migration Policy Research, University of Swansea and School of Social and Political Sciences (Central and East European Studies), University of Glasgow, as well as with a range of project partners including local authorities, migrant and community organisations, to generate new academic insight and develop practical and policy outcomes and solutions through the use of participatory action research.
