I appreciate the long-term vision here.
If we had a volunteer and a not-too-far ETA for the great plan
proposed for 2.0, then I would probably 100% agree, but TTBOMK we have
no such thing yet, and 2.0 currently means "at some point after 1.1",
with no clear deadline.
We've left this issue lingering for too many months already, and I'm
not excited at postponing it for some unclear time that could be
6 months (minimum, since IMO we should focus on 1.0 and 1.1 right now,
not start tackling such large tasks in parallel) or way longer.
OTOH, the workaround is likely to take a few hours, and would solve
the usability problem for a while, so I have to say I find it very,
very tempting.
