FTR I have done "apt-get clean" and "apt-get --purge autoremove".

Could be great, yeah. I personally won't refresh the box again on
short term, though, as it's a pretty minor issue IMHO. I say better
integrate it with the way our (future) vagrant-libvirt basebox
is built.
