+1 on comments about "digital media" vs. networked.
Also, I wanted to plug Laura Portwood-Stacer's work on radical activism (esp. her new book http://www.worldcat.org/oclc/846911944) for a good treatment of activist ideology and connections to technology, although this is in keeping with the comment that much of this work comes from a media studies perspective.
