Also, being part of Occupy Tampa...I would have to agree with Tristian Lear
(hi ;) ). A lot of the various protests we are seeing across the country
(and even the world like examples of Turkey and Brazil) have some
affiliation with people who participated in Arab Spring, Puerta del Sol, or
Occupy. It seems that we are starting to find other people around the world
to work with. For example, in Rome, Italy right now there are an estimated
60,000 people marching in a general strike. Last night they set up tents
(just like in Puerta del Sol) in Rome. We can instantly connect with people
on the ground in Rome through twitter, facebook, and livestream.
If you think of all the allied movements and protests going on across the
world, global protests have expanded rapidly. Just look at
www.facebook.com/revnews --- literally, every day there are clashes with
police in the streets around the world. I think too often we focus on a
narrow "US-based Occupy movement" when we should really open our eyes and
look at what is happening across the world --- people are building
collective co-operatives, huge boom in citizen media, direct
democracy/consensus is being used much more, many social centers/squats are
being built, several major general strikes this past year...etc, etc, etc.
