> Since 2008, the world in general and Europe in particular are affected by a severe financial crisis behind which emerges an even more serious crisis in the real economy. National governments have difficulties to find a way out of a stalemate that is realized in a growing political instability in those countries most affected by the crisis. The austerity policies proposed by different governments have largely produced recessionary effects with direct consequences on the quality of life of citizens.
> In this panel, contributions that seek to highlight the real impact of the economic crisis on civil society (national and international) are welcome, as well as on more or less organized political actors (parties and social movements).
> The economic crisis has partially led to a deterioration of the social trust towards supranational organizations and international institutions, like the European Union and the World Bank, which comes in addition to the classical crisis of legitimacy affecting Western politicians for years.
> A similar situation has influenced the political processes leading to new forms of political participation from below (see the transnational movements of Indignados/M15, Occupy, higher education and the like), as well as a cultural and organizational reconfiguration of the traditional political actors (see the case of new populist-leaning political subjects).
> In this panel, theoretical and /or empirical papers will be welcomed, both when they want to shed light on the consequences of the financialization of the economy on the normal course of political processes, and when they want to deal with specific cases or various compared cases on the relationship between economic crisis and political participation. In this regard, on the one hand, contributions that analyze some forms of non-conventional mobilization (social movements, committees, etc..) will be appreciated, on the other hand, we are also interested in the analysis of those subjects who decide to influence the political process by participating directly to the dynamics of institutions, albeit on renewed basis (populist movements, political parties, groups).
> Abstracts (max 500 words) must be submitted by 15 May to the chairs: Fabio de Nardis (fabio.denardis@???) and Gianni Piazza (giannipiazza@???)
