Ubuntu has something called a "dash" where you can search for files on
your filesystems. They are trying to assert a claim that simply by
searching the dash you agree to have them collect and disclose your
data, even if you have not been informed that that action constitutes
consent.

When a user opens the Dash, it now has the words "Legal Notice" in small
writing in the bottom right corner of the Dash window. When you click on
it a notice comes up that includes the following text

"By searching the dash you consent to:

* the collection and use of your search terms and IP address in this
way, and
* the storage of your search terms and IP address by Canonical and
such selected parties (if applicable."

The text above that explains that the selected parties include
"Facebook, Twitter, BBC and Amazon," and that "in this way" means
basically the same thing as listed in the second dot point.

Once it is read, the "Legal Notice" text changes to a tiny icon with the
letter i.

although it sounds as if accessing such things are a bit of a drag for
you at the moment. Amazingly many websites, like this one, present all
of that without even blinking!
