Universiteit Maastricht (UM) the youngest university in the Netherlands
is renowned for its unique, innovative, problem-based learning system,
which is characterized by a small-scale and student-oriented approach.
Research at UM is characterized by a multidisciplinary and thematic
approach, and is concentrated in research institutes and schools.
Currently UM has around 11500 students and 3,000 employees. Reflecting
the university's strong international profile, a fair amount of both
students and staff are from abroad. The university hosts 6 faculties:
Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Faculty of law, Faculty
of Economics and Business Administration, Faculty of Humanities and
Sciences, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Faculty of Psychology.

The faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) has approximately 200
employees and around 1500 students. The faculty is very internationally
oriented and several of the programmes are offered in English. Its
students come from all over the world. The FASoS offers two three-year
bachelor's programmes: Arts and Culture and European Studies, and ten
one-year master's. The Research Institute for Arts and Culture
encompasses all research of FASoS. The Research Institute comprises
three programmes: 1. Politics and Culture in Europe, 2. Science,
Technology and Society, and 3. Science and Culture: Texts and Contexts.
The research area overlaps both the humanities and the social sciences.
Although the Institute covers a broad terrain, the research is clustered
around five core themes:
1. European Governance; 2. Europe and the World; 3. The Culture of
Innovation; 4. Ditgital Culture; and 5. Beyond the Three Cultures. The
faculty has formal relations with four national graduate research schools.

*You contribute to the teaching in the BA and MA European Studies of the
Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, mainly through courses in the field
of research methods. The Maastricht European Studies programmes study
Europe and European integration in its broader international,
historical, cultural and political context and from an interdisciplinary
perspective. The language of instruction is English.
You also contribute to the research programmes of the Faculty from your
own area of expertise. While your teaching activities will take 60% of
your time, research will be 40% of your employment time. The research
time can be extended through external fundraising.
*Qualifications: *
You have a PhD in the social sciences.
You have experience with teaching methods, especially quantitative
research methods.
In your research you have extensively made use of quantitative research
methods.
You have published internationally and in peer-reviewed journals.
You dispose of an international network.
You write and speak English most fluently. Teaching experience in
English is a plus.
You are open to interdisciplinary research work.
You are a team player.
Previous experience with innovative, problem-based teaching methods is
highly welcomed.

The appointment as assistant professor is initially offered for a
three-year period. Depending on experience and qualification, the gross
monthly salary is between scale level 10, minimum EUR 2.379,00 and scale
12, maximum EUR 4.970,00 (based on a full-time appointment). The FASoS

You have a PhD in International Relations or Political Science.
Your research experience and publications demonstrate your expertise in
the broader field of International Relations.
Expertise in the field of EU external relations; especially in EU trade
and/or development policy is a plus.
You write and speak English most fluently.
Teaching experience in English is a plus.
You are open to interdisciplinary research.
You are a team player.
Previous experience with innovative, problem-based teaching methods is
highly welcomed.
