Just two weeks before the Camp for Climate Action at Kingsnorth, E.ON is
sponsoring a climate summit designed to help industry leaders 'keep

this is greenwash of the highest toxicity, an attempt to distract us from
the fact that E.ON is planning to build the first coal-fired power station
in the UK for over thirty years. This hot-air-fest cannot pass without a
visit from… the Greenwash Guerrillas! Camp for Climate Action, Rising
Tide, People and Planet, Earth First! and WDM are all helping to spread
the word.

route will mostly follow the south side of the Thames. We hope to be
hosted by communities along the route who will support us with food, water
and accommodation. The caravan group is keen for the experience to be
family friendly an act as positive outreach for the camp.If you'd like to

11) SIGN-ON LETTER FOR U'WA, COLOMBIA
Amazon Watch is requesting signatures for a public pronouncement against
the militarisation of the U'wa tribe's territory in Colombia. In recent
months the presence of armed actors, both state and illegal, has increased
tremendously within the U'wa reservation.
The U'wa have been in the forefront of resistance to oil exploration for
many years by defending their land from appropriation and drilling. 'Our
territory is a place of peace and freedom for both humans and well as for
nature and we do not want it to become a place of war, blood and
destruction.'

13) NEW CORNERHOUSE CLIMATE BRIEFINGS, 18.6.08
'Billions wasted on UN climate programme'
'European Union's efforts to tackle climate change a failure
'UN effort to curtail emissions in turmoil'
'Truth about Kyoto: huge profits, little carbon saved'
These recent newspaper headlines tell the story. The world's dominant
approach to dealing with the climate crisis –- carbon trading, the
centrepiece of the Kyoto Protocol and the European Union Emissions Trading
Scheme –- isn't working. The Corner House has recently posted nearly a
dozen new items on its
website that shed light on these issues. We hope you find them useful and
informative.

RECENT HAPPENINGS:
1) ASHEVILLE RISING TIDE BUILDS GREEN POWER PLANT IN DUKE CEO'S FRONT
YARD, US, 25.5.08
Today, activists with Asheville Rising Tide broke ground on a new 800 Mw
clean energy power plant in Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers front yard. The
power plant will tap into a previously unexplored energy source known as
hot air which has been found in large concentrations at Roger's North
Carolina residence. "The hot air emitting from Jim Rogers mouth has been
around for quite some time, but the last couple of years has seen an
exponential growth of this untapped energy source as Rogers parades around
the country calling for greenhouse gas reductions while building the dirty
Cliffside coal plant. This was simply an opportunity we couldn't pass up,"
said Jill Rockingham, chief engineer for the project.

the chatty cleaners, "There's no mess too big! We make coal Fossil Fuel
Fresh ™".The climate activists targeted E.ON for its promotion of 'false
capitalist solutions' to climate change. E.ON is exploiting the idea of a
future Carbon Capture and Storage system to justify building a new
coal-fired power station at Kingsnorth.

finally managed to remove some technologically advanced lock-ons.
GroenFront! is demanding an immediate halt to the construction of an E.ON
coal power plant in the port of Rotterdam. The action is part of
GroenFront!'s "shrink or drown" campaign, which aims at bringing down the
size of the Dutch economy to more manageable proportions. Seven protestors
were arrested for refusing police orders or refusing to show an ID. They
were released around midnight.

5) DAY OF ACTION ON FOOD AND CLIMATE CHANGE, 10.6.08
'Climate activists took action across the country and beyond to coincide
with the start of the UN Conference on World Food Security, Climate Change
& Bio-energy in Rome. "As world leaders and corporations come together to
talk more hot air, people across the UK are taking real action on food and
climate change." In Girton, Cambridge, Earth First! activists visited the
laboratory and offices of the National Institute for Agricultural Botany
(NIAB), others came together for a protest outside Newham town hall in
East Ham to object the UK's first biofuel-fired power plant to be built,
in Beckton. Manchester saw some guerilla gardening as well as free food
giveaways in London, Sheffield, Bistol, Nottingham, Glasgow, Liverpool and
Amsterdam. 'Ready, Steady, Skip!', a new film and website
(http://www.readysteadyskip.org.uk) about the joys of skipping was also
