EVENT: Bike week

After eighty four years the UK's annual Bike Week is still going
strong. This summer's 'celebration of cycling' boasts over 1,500
events and is expected to attract more than 250,000 participants.

Hundreds of Bike2Work rides have been organised to encourage car
drivers to try cycling to work, a great alternative for commuters in
congested urban areas and for people who want an easy way to feel
healthy and keep fit. Some universities and schools use Bike Week as
an opportunity to encourage more students to cycle. There are also
short, easy-paced rides for novice cyclists, children and young
families. Though most Bike Week events are free to enter, some raise
funds for charities such as Leukaemia Research.

Bike Week is organised by 18 organisations, funded by the UK
government and sponsored by the cycle industry's Bike Hub fund. All
Bike Week and Bike2Work events are listed at

If this leaves you feeling green and worthy, why not also check out
this site, supported by cycling charity Sustrans. 'Change your world
week' asks you to simply swap one car journey for a more sustainable
alternative.
