QUEER FESTIVAL COPENHAGEN, 9 – 15 July 2007
In the summer of 2006 the first Queer Festival took

Copenhagen. Now we prepare for a queer-tastic summer

We call for activists and artists of all kinds and
from all over the
world to participate and make the festival even bigger
and better
this year. Read on to find out about the festival and
how you can join.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Anyone from any country who wants to contribute a
project, concert,
installation, film, talk, guided tour, workshop,
paintings, photos

‘queer’ which
to us is a term covering different expressions that
challenge and
relate to gender and sexuality.

DEADLINE
The earlier you get in touch the more help you can get
from us the
organisers and the better chance that we can support
you with some
kind of coverage of your expenses.
You can however contact us at any time until the
festival with
projects and we'll see what we can do to fit it in the
program. For
smaller events there will be open slots in the
program/exhibition for
last minute additions.

WE HOPE TO OFFER YOU THIS
• A festival house and a yard in central Copenhagen
with lots of
opportunities for performance, workshops and social
activities.
• A stage open all week with both a planned program
and lots of open
stage hours for anyone who would like to perform.
• Rooms for exhibition.
• Facilities for workshops
• A place to sleep and food to eat (again we are
talking D.I.Y. and
non-profit so don’t expect hotels and expensive
dinners)

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
In 2006 the first Queer Festival took place in
Copenhagen. For a week
more than 100 artists, musicians, DJs, performers,
social and
political activists, drag kings, drag queens, and
genderbenders from
many countries got together and created an alternative
to
heteronormative culture, politics, and spaces.

This was accomplished through artistic, social, and
sexual-political
activities in a program that also encouraged free
self-expression on
open stages and spontaneous events around the city.
The 2006 festival took place in central Copenhagen and
was attended
by 200-300 people every day (including the activists
and performers)
and ended in a big party with 1000 guests.

NON-PROFIT
The festival is D.I.Y. and non-profit. Our goal is to
keep costs for
participating in the festival at a minimum instead of
generating a
profit. This also means that no artists will be paid.
Instead we
offer you to participate for free in a great week of
queer arts,
music, activism, partying and other social activities
– a great
opportunity to meet artists, activists and cool queer
people from all
over the world.
Our fund raising group is however working hard to get
money allowing
us to pay the travel expenses for as many
artists/performers/
activists as possible.

QUEER AS A PERSPECTIVE
Queer is a perspective criticizing and transgressing
the prevalent
norms governing gender roles and sexual identity. The
festival thus
addresses not only familiar minorities such as gay
men, lesbians, and
transsexuals, but everyone who dislikes the rigid
division into the
categories man and woman.
