[Karawana rowerowa od Berlina do St Petersburga:
http://g8-2006.plentyfact.net/karawana_polski ]

Hello,

I am Philipp from Kesselberg next to Berlin. I write you because I am
co-organizing this years bike caravane against g8 from Berlin to St.
Petersburg. (Maybe you have already
heard about this idea, if not you find some more information below.)

There are not many things clear until now, but the bike tour will
start from Berlin the 2nd of june and go through Frankfurt, Poznan, Torun,
Olstyn, Suwalki (around 18th of june), Vilnius, Riga, Narva to Petersburg
(7th of
july).
In the moment, there are mainly people from Western Europe involved, but
we dont want to make just alternative tourism. Thats why we are looking
for local people on the way who would like to organize

+local info meetings about g8 and global resistance
+political actions like Critical Mass, visits to refugee camps, pickets at
nuclear power stations or any other shitty places (which mostly
have a relation with g8 politics)
+and finally: host us for one or two nights, if possible organizing
sleeping places for (maybe) 30 persons, food and a shower. (But we will
have tents and kitchen equipment with us, so that just a campground would
be okay, too.)

These are the most important points. But if you are able, you could also:

+join us with your bike at the tour, at least for one or several days! (or
organize another tour from Warszawa or anywhere else, we will meet in
Olsztyn or Suwalki!)
+think and help us about sleeping places, routes and interesting places
for info and action next to your city and on other parts of the way
(Timeplan wiki page: http://g8-2006.plentyfact.net/Timeplan)
+help us with infomaterial about g8 and global resistance and/or translate
materials into Polish

These are a lot of things, but if you can give us even a small support it
will help us a lot!

PLease contact me (or if you want to write in Polish:
support-g8caravan@???). I
know that you dont live on the route, but
maybe you have some contacts to forward this message or help us in any
other way!

Greetings from Kesselberg,

Philipp

Here some more information from our wiki web site for the tour:

Bike caravane from Berlin to St. Petersburg

*The idea*

>From July 15th to 17th, the G8-summit 2006 will be held in St.Petersburg,

Russia.

One possibility to get there, if everything works fine, will be the
bike-caravan from berlin to petersburg via poland and the baltic states.
It is a possibility to protest against the summit and show alternatives to
the system behind it on the stations we pass. Alternatives mean for
example: We use our own human power to travel and try to find a
non-hierarchical and ecological way of living together during the tour.

Besides joy of living and knowing that "un otro mundo es possible"
(another world is possible), it is a political action and much more than
tourism. This means we want to get in touch with many local people. It can
contain information meetings, discussions, actions with local activists, a
mobile exposition about g8 and resistance, a possibility to show films at
the tour and much more...

The tour is self-organized. So don't expect a "logistic staff" organizing
food, bike maintenance, transport... We all who are going should organize
this together (contacts below).

*What is already prepared (April 2006)?*

The caravan will start around 6th (or 2nd or maybe 12th) of June in Berlin
(see discussion on Timeplan). The route will lead through Poland, the
Baltic States towards St. Petersburg. The most probable route is:
Frankfurt/Slubice, Poznan, Torun, Olsztyn, Suwalki, Vilnius, Panevezys,
Riga, Valmiera, Tartu, Narva... (See Details on Timeplan:
http://g8-2006.plentyfact.net/Timeplan). At the moment there are mainly
people from Western Europe involved,

On April 22 2006 there were 55 people who were subscribed on the mailing
list (http://lists.riseup.net/www/info/g8caravan). We don't know how many
of them will really join in the caravan. Have a look (and sign in!) at the
Caravan_People List to see who will take part on the caravan (and is ready
to show this in public): http://g8-2006.plentyfact.net/Caravan_People.

It is important to plan the tour as good as we can - and therefore your
help important. But - like it or not - part of the tour will stay
"spantaneous".

*Wanted: Co-organizers, bike experts, local people*

We are now looking for people, who would like to:

- coordinate a part of the tour especially in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia
and Estonia. That means: check possible routes, thinking about campgrounds
and so on.

- host the caravan in your town/village. This could be an opportunity for
public info-action about G8 in your neighbourhood.

- collect/prepare/translate infomaterial about G8 in
polish/lithuanian/latvian/estonian/russian language which could be used
during the tour.

- participate. Travel by bike, enjoy the nature, discussions, actions..

*Contact*

To get in contact:

- There is a mailinglist for those who are interested:

*Background: The Caravan to the G8 Summit in Scotland 2005*

The 2005 G8 Bike Ride (http://www.g8bikeride.org.uk/) was a great success
and some of the 70 or so riders who took part were inspired to ride to
Russia in 2006.

In November 2005 at a meeting in Nottingham, a group of 15 G8 riders
formed a collective called Bicycology (http://www.bicycology.org.uk/) to
plan future events but decided to focus on a UK bicycle roadshow for 2006.
