Programme

At the conference we present an inventory of the
socio-economic
position
of older migrant women in the Netherlands, Austria,
Germany, Italy and
the
United Kingdom.

Policy makers and migrant women will meet. Social
partners, migrant-
and
women's organisations, older people's unions and other
parties involved
will discuss their strategies and present their
recommendations in
order
to put this issue on the political agenda, nationally
as well as
European.

The chair person of the conference is Mrs. Anne Sophie
Parent, director
of
Age Europe, the European older peoples Platform and
president of the
Platform of European Social NGO's.

Key note speakers:

-          Mrs. Jay Ginn, Visiting Professor at Surrey
University, 
Centre
for Research on Ageing and Gender (UK), expert on how
paid and unpaid 
work
and gendered pension systems contributes to female
poverty in later 
life. 
Co-writer of Women, Work and Pensions, international
issues and 
prospects.


-          Mrs. Naina Patel, founder and director of
the Policy 
Research
Institute on Ageing & Ethnicity (PRIAE). PRIAE
recently led and
published Europe's Minority Ethnic Elderly, a research
project looking 
at
the provision of health care and social care to Black
and Minority 
Ethnic
elders in ten European countries. She also holds the
Chair in Ageing 
and
Ethnicity at the Centre for Ethnicity and Health,
University of Central
Lancashire.


-          Mrs. Gloria Wekker, professor of Gender,
Ethnicity and
Multicultural Society, Utrecht University (NL) ,
specialising in 
Women's
Studies, African American Studies, and Caribbean
Studies. Prof. Wekker
holds the IIAV - chair on gender and ethnicity from
2001 -2006.


Representatives of Age Europe, the European
Anti-Poverty Network, EURAG
and the European Women's Lobby are invited to
participate, provide
expertise and take the outcomes of the conference with
them for future
actions. National and European MP's and
representatives of the
European
Commission shall receive the recommendations of the
conference
participants. Migrant women from the five EU
countries involved will
be
present and will contribute by telling their stories
and sharing their
experiences.

In workshops the following topics will be discussed:

1.        EU - pension systems and migrant women


2.        Migrant women@work


3.        Empowering BME women


4.        Education, training and life long learning


5.        Knowledge and knowledge gaps: AGE+ in
research and statistics


6.        National Action Plans and migrant women



Policy makers and migrant women will enter the
discussion. Best
practices from different EU member states will be
presented during the
conference.

Social partners, migrant- and women's organisations,
older people's
unions
and other parties involved will discuss their
strategies and will
present
their recommendations in order to put migrant women on
the political
agenda, nationally as well as on a European level.

At the conference an inventory of the socio-economic
position of older
migrant women in 5 EU member states is presented, and
the impact on
their
personal lives. Together with you we want to
investigate how we can
combat
social exclusion and poverty of this 'hidden' group.
