VLR 77-3 DOMINATRIX / THE HAGGARD "Split" 7"
A record billed as the illicit results of a long
triangle formed at Ladyfest Amsterdam - excellent! The
Haggard are a queercore grrrl band from Portland, USA.
They have the raw, angry sound of Harum-Scarum or
Antiproduct and it's pretty amazing. Dominatrix are at
the other end of the riot-grrrl scale, with poppy,
riot-grrrl fuzz originating from Brazil. Overall a rad
record that anyone with grrrl credentials should get.

The Haggard is a band Ive always made a point of
seeing whenever they come through. I went to see them
in Berkley last year on their Queerblitz tour with
Domintrix. These women really rocked and made a good
point about how the queercore scene and the politcal
punk scene become so disconnected in a place like the
Bay area, where admist so many like minded people it
can be easy to forget to struggle together. The
Haggard plays raw punk whereas Dominatrix plays more
traditional queercore. I ve long felt dismaied that
the Haggard never put anything on vinyl with a very
good recording since they really rock live, but this
7 does them justice. The two bands complement
theirself without sounding too similar. --Jenny Mundy
