Focus on the Global South, organizzazione tra le più attive nello studio e nella denuncia dell'impatto della Wto e del commercio internazionale sulle comunità del Sud, ha fatto girare un documento di condanna per le minacce di morte rivolte dal Partito Comunista Filippino al loro direttore, tra i leaders dei movimenti asiatici più conosciuti anche in Italia: Walden Bello.
Di seguito troverete il documento che Focus chiede di inoltrare a tutti i rappresentanti della società civile internazionale.
Come ROBA riteniamo importante far circolare anche in Italia questo appello e manifestare la nostra solidarietà e sostegno a Walden Bello e alla sua organizzazione, tra i protagonisti della campagna Questo Mondo Non E' In Vendita, delle giornate di Cancun e tra le realtà più lucide e indipendenti del movimento altermondialista.

NON C'E' POSTO NELLA SOCIETA' CIVILE PER OMICIDIO E VIOLENZA
Esprimiamo preoccupazione per una Lista nera che include Walden Bello e altri attivisti
Per rispetto verso le oltre 160mila vittime della tragedia dello Tsunami che ha colpito l'Asia meridionale il 26 dicembre 2003, noi di Focus of the Global South abbiamo aspettato fino ad oggi a denunciare un'allarmante deriva che minaccia la sicurezza del nostro Direttore Esecutivo, Walden Bello
Focus non è solito attirare l'attenzione sulle condizioni del proprio staff. Questa volta, tuttavia, le cose stanno diversamente. Nell'edizione del dicembre 2004 di Ang Bayan, organo ufficiale di stampa del Partito comunista delle Filippine (CPP), Walden è stato individuato come "controrivoluzionario". Il suo nome è stato inserito in una lista di altri quattordici nomi di persone vive e morte. Due delle persone elencate nella lista dei "controrivoluzionari", Arturo Tabara e Filemon Lagman, sono stati già assassinati, l'ultimo solo tre mesi fa. Un altro, Ricardo Reyes, è stato ricercato da operativi del Partito Comunista e del New People's Army (NPA) ed è stato costretto a nascondersi.
Per le persone che hanno familiarità con la storia e le pratiche del Partito Comunista delle Filippine e della sua ala paramilitare, la NPA, il messaggio della lista di controrivoluzionari rivolto a Walden e agli altri è inconfondibile: sei fuori. Tu sei un "nemico di classe" che deve essere eliminato, l'unica cosa che resta in sospeso è dove e come il partito eseguirà la condanna.
Per noi di Focus, l'aver visto Walden e altri attivisti filippini inseriti in una lista di controrivoluzionari candidati all'eliminazione è stato uno shock. Gli scritti di Walden, i suoi libri e contributi parlano da soli: vincitore del prestigioso Premio Nober Alternativo, il Right Livelihood Award, è riconosciuto come uno tra i più circostanziati critici della globalizzazione orchestrata da Stati Uniti e corporations. Tra gli altri nominati nella lista troviamo l'attivista internazionale Lidy Nacpil e Etta Rosales, coordinatrice dell'Human Rights Committee della Philippine House of Representatives.
Walden, insieme alla parlamentare Rosales, ha fatto quello che ha potuto per proteggersi dalla Lista nera del CPP: l'ha pubblicizzata sui media. Da quel momento, nel tentativo successivo di giustificare la presenza di Walden su quella lista, volgari attacchi contro di lui sono stati mossi da Jose Maria Sison, coordinatore del CPP e da Fidel Agcaoili, altro alto funzionario di partito.
Walden è stato dipinto, tra l'altro, come un agente dell'imperialismo USA e un avvocato della difesa della Wto che chiede la riforma dell'organizzazione perché essa possa meglio ridurre in miseria la gente. Focus on the Global South è stato dipinto come un ricettacolo di "fondi imperialisti". Organizzazioni e movimenti con i quali Walden e Focus lavorano sono stati etichettati come gruppi "Trotzkisti" o "Socialdemocratici" controrivoluzionari. Il movimento della società civile mondiale che ha facilitato il collasso delle ministeriali della Wto a Seattle e a Cancun è stato descritto come un fronte del capitalismo globale. Questo recentissimo attacco contro la società civile globale è simile a quello portato dai gruppi legati al CPP contro il Forum Sociale Mondiale e contro il processo di Porto Alegre definiti "complotto imperialista" per distogliere il popolo dalla rivoluzione mondiale.
Provenendo da un gruppo politico settario e con un'agenda davvero peculiare, queste accuse fantastiche contro Walden, Focus e la società civile globale non ha bisogno di una risposta seria. E' importante comprendere, tuttavia, che cosa sta dietro la collocazione di Walden in una lista di controrivoluzionari. Apparentemente il CPP e i suoi alleati sono ingannati dall'agenda e dal processo della "società civile che guida il cambiamento" che Walden e Focus portano avanti - un programma pluralista, inclusivo, e democratico, dove le differenti tradizioni sono viste come una fonte di forza piuttosto che come veleno per la purezza fondamentalista.
Ma l'attentato contro la vita di Walden e contro le vite degli altri presunti controrivoluzionari è reale e non può essere ignorata. Per di più, azioni ghettizzanti portate avanti da gruppi legati al CPP con lo slogan di "isolare i riformisti e i controrivoluzionari", stanno seminando intrigo e conflitto in alcune reti e movimenti della sociatà civile, che indeboliscono le nostre fila rispetto alla globalizzazione spinta dalle multinazionali e dal militarismo USA.
Le divergenze tra gruppi che lottano per il cambiamento sono naturali. Ma queste divergenze dovrebbero essere risolte attraverso il dibattito democratico: questa è una fondamentale premessa dei nostri movimenti. Cercare di risolvere queste differenze con agguati, violenza e omicidi non può essere permesso e deve essere denunciato nei termini più fermi e forti possibili. L'uso della violenza, del terrore e dell'omicidio debbono essere sempre condannati, anche quando chi li porta avanti sono attori di Stato o meno come CPP e NPA.
Focus on the Global South chiama le organizzazioni della società civile e le reti globalmente a condannare queste minacce e azioni nei termini più forti possibili. Essere parte di un movimento globale più grande per la giustizia sociale, noi abbiamo interagito, lavorato, anche sostenuto gruppi che sono associati con CPP o ci lavorano a stratto contatto come Ibon Foundation, Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP), Cordillera People's Alliance (CPA), International League of People's Struggles (ILPS), KMU (May 1st Movement), Asian Student Association (ASA), and Migrante. Facciamo appello al senso dell'onore individuale in questi e negli altri gruppi e chiediamo loro di denunciare queste azioni e di mettere in atto una pressione morale su Sisone sugli altri leaders della CPP e NPA perché regedano dalla minaccia e dall'uso della forza e dell'omicidio politico.
Rivolgiamo un appello finale alla CPP perché desista dal suo distruttivo corso e smetta di dividere il movimento che lotta contro la globalizzazione delle corporations in un momento tanto cruciale per le lotte per un mondo più equo e più giusto.
