Section Outline:

The section Artists and Political Movements concentrates especially on
the role of art and artists in social and political movements.

We invite panels that increase an understanding of the contribution
that different forms of arts and artistic practices bring to politics.
The section intends to focus on the relationship between politics and
the arts, in which different 'creative practices' are considered as
forms of political action and political thought. For instance, what
kind of roles do different visual, textual or audio-visual narratives
have in supporting, criticising or producing political
(counter)movements? How do narrative practices establish truths about
politics? How to reflect on ethical dimensions of artistic practices in
society, or, in which forms has artistic resistance acted in oppressive
regimes? Furthermore, the panels might discuss issues, in which the
political cause has been the major inspirational source for artistic
action. Panels might also highlight aspects of art as power/critique of
political power in certain political and historical context.

The general core of the section is to investigate ways in which
politics and the arts can be combined from the perspective of political
theory and analysis. The panelists should raise questions of method and
praxis, and explore ways in which the combination between political and
artistic action advance our understanding of the political.
