PEACE CYCLE
?GIRO DELLA PACE?
Agosto ? settembre in bici da tutta Europa a Gerusalemme
Attraverso il suo messaggio il "Giro della Pace" si farà testimone della
occupazione israeliana delle terre palestinesi e chiederà una soluzione che
porti ad una pace lunga e duratura tra i popoli israeliano e palestinese.
Oltre a ciò, grazie a diverse iniziative organizzate dai gruppi locali,
saranno raccolti durante il viaggio fondi per l'invio di aiuti umanitari alla
popolazione palestinese. Alcune considerazioni più precise degli
organizzatori su quello che intendono promuovere per portare la pace in
medio-oriente le trovate in inglese a fine messaggio. In sintesi il "Giro
della Pace" racconterà l'esistenza di una parte di mondo che crede nella
possibilità di un percorso non-violento che, seppur lungo e faticoso, possa
condurre ad una integrazione tra i popoli e le culture e non ad una
separazione attraverso muri o barricate.
La diversità delle organizzazioni che hanno prestato il loro aiuto alla
realizzazione del progetto evidenzia come l'idea di pace e rispetto tra i
popoli sia più forte dei diversi credi politici o religiosi. Infatti
supportano l?iniziativa organizzazioni pacifiste israeliane e palestinesi e
per il sostegno in Italia si appoggiano a Assopace. L?Associazione per la
Pace fino ad oggi ancora non ha avuto le forze di iniziare una vera e propria
organizzazione ma hanno, per adesso, preso alcuni contatti. Le altre
organizzazioni che, per adesso, sono interessate all'iniziativa sono il
Servizio Civile Internazionale, l'ARCI e la UISP. Con loro e con tutte le
organizzazioni interessate, le associazioni Fiab e Assopace dovranno cercare
di capire assieme in cosa possono sostenere la delegazione di ciclisti che
attraverserà l'Italia il prossimo settembre.
Appoggiano l?iniziativa a livello internazionale: The Friends of Al-Aqsa, The
Palestine Solidarity Campaign, The International Solidarity Movement, The
Muslim Association of Britain, The Holy Land Trust, The Annur Youth
Association (Bethlehem), Gush Shalom (the Israeli Peace Bloc),Al-Awda Right
of Return Coalition.
Il Peace Cycle è organizzato su base volontaria e tutti I proventi derivanti
dall?evento saranno devoluti attraverso aiuti umanitari alla Palestina.
Riceviamo dagli organizzatori queste considerazioni su cosa intendono
promuovere per portare la pace in medio ? oriente.
"Israel has deprived millions of Palestinians of their liberty and property.
It has perpetuated a system of gross racial discrimination and inequality. It
has systematically incarcerated and tortured thousands of Palestinians,
contrary to the rules of international law. It has, in particular, waged a
war against a civilian population, in particular children..... Palestine is
one of the great moral causes of our time."

I have always been of the understanding that the "Israeli Occupation" referred
to the Occupied Territories, consisted of the West Bank and Gaza that were
occupied in 1967 and defined by the UN with the "Green Line".
It is also to be noted that Palestine has been under permanent occupation
since the Israelites took the land of Canaan circa 2000BC, followed by the
Romans, the Ottoman Empire and the British Mandate.
We believe 100% that any peace must conform to International Law, UN
resolutions and The 4th Geneva convention. This would include opposing the
murder of both the 800 Israeli and 3000 Palestinians. I note that you make no
mention of the murder of 3000 innocent Palestinian civilians.
We have no intention of supporting suicide bombers or organisations that
support them, likewise I would hope that the USA and its partners including
Great Britain and Italy will stop providing the military support so that the
Israeli Defence Force can murder innocent Palestinians.
I would also condemn equally civilian deaths by cruise missiles and B52
bombers.
1. The Saudi peace plan offered peace to Israel from every Arab nation, and
recognised Israel's right to exist, but only in "Israel Proper" that is, not
including the West Bank and Gaza - these areas are Palestinian territory and
are under occupation by the Israeli Army.
2. We do believe it is possible for Israelis and Palestinians to live in
peace, so long as Palestinians are allowed the freedom and independence
Israel expects for itself, in their own state of Palestine. We personally
believe in the two-state solution, although chances of this are being eroded
by the policies of Israel and the building of the wall/fence (which is
cutting into Palestinian land and causing further strangulation of the
Palestinian people). The demolition of homes on a daily basis in East
Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza ( only 1% of the homes demolished can be
deemed a security threat from tunnels). The routine curfews that are imposed
that make studying, work and medical care impossible, and it again should be
noted that these curfews were imposed long before the suicide bomber.
3. We are called The Peace Cycle because we support peace. We do not support
violence. We do not support the bombing of anyone, Israeli or Palestinian. We
abhor a situation where men, women and children are losing their lives as a
result of this illegal occupation, and we feel that each act of violence
ultimately leads to another act of violence. But we strongly believe that it
is the occupation of international recognised Palestine - the West Bank, East
Jerusalem and Gaza - which is the root cause of that violence and hatred,
like a poison within Israeli as well as Palestinian society.
4. Ultimately we believe that at some point in the future, many years at
present but then the Berlin Wall fell very suddenly, Arab and Jewish Israelis
will live in peace with the newfound Palestinian state. No walls or barriers
as we are fortunate to experience in Europe today 60 years after European
turmoil.
I hope this explanation of our ideology will enable your organisation to
support us in our endeavours to promote a just peace for everyone who lives
in the area.
