CRITICAL MASS PALESTINE=20
Goals:
1) to force themselves through checkpoints, to undermine the authority of
Israeli power nodes (checkpoints, roadblocks etc.)=20
2) Contest the lack of freedom of movement, to reveal the absurdity of the
israeli control of Palestine=20
3) (a) to spread information about the wall and ideas of the participating
organisations in the cities and villages of the West Bank (especially the
ones near The Wall),=20
(b) to collect ideas from the participating people in the cities and
villages.=20
4) to observe the violence against human rights conducted all around the
West Bank.=20

Some positive impacts:=20
observation=20
media=20
talk to the soldiers=20
encourage desertion.=20

A logistics committee will be necessary to organize different specific
routes as well as other coordination committees that you may help create.=20
This project could be timed to coincide with the planned Anti-Occupation
mass ride across Europe that is scheduled to arrive in Haifa by ferry boat=
in=20
August 2004=20
with best wishes=20

The Israeli soldiers will not allow civilians to move=20
across many checkpoints in vehicles. This is a=20
problem. Personal automobiles are useless for=20
transportation between villages and cities around the=20
Occupied Territories. The prices of taxies and buses=20
are inflated beyond what they would be if the=20
roadblocks did not exist.=20

There is a solution to this problem that is=20
environmental, healthy, economical, community=20
oriented, and quite feasible.=20
Using bicycles is a better form of transportation for=20
all activists, tourists, and perhaps even Palestinian=20
commuters primarily because of the roadblocks.=20
Bicycles are not restricted from crossing roadblocks=20
designed for to prevent vehicular traffic.=20

detailed ideas:=20
All genders can participate.=20
Internationals would be encouraged to bring their own=20
bicycles to Palestine.=20
Training would be provided similar to that already=20
given in ISM. Affinity groups would be created, and=20
groups would ride towards different destinations.=20
Groups would stay in towns for a few days, before=20
moving on to other areas.=20

Primary objectives for the use of Critical Mass within=20
ISM would be to talk with soldiers about desertion,=20
checkpoint watch, and to increase communication with a=20
larger geographic range of the Palestinian population=20
than is now possible for ISMers on foot and using=20
vehicular transportation.=20
It may be possible to attempt to bring camping gear in=20
order to camp in uninhabited land when affinity groups=20
are between villages. This has not been tried before,=20
but with the limited resources of the Israeli Army,=20
most likely camping groups will go unnoticed.=20
email: faied_zeiad@??? for all of the above=20
mentioned communication.=20

Implimentation of Palestinian Critical Mass could=20
possible begin as early as January of 2004.=20
Any suggestions, comments, or questions about=20
Palestinian Critical Mass would be appreciated.=20
Nothing is yet set in stone, and those working on this=20
project hope to begin a dialogue about it's=20
possibilites before any action takes place.=20

Palestinian Critical Mass

The Israeli soldiers will not allow civilians to move across many
checkpoints in vehicles. This is a problem. Personal automobiles are
useless for transportation between villages and cities around the Occupied
Territories. The prices of taxies and buses
are inflated beyond what they would be if the roadblocks did not exist.

There is a solution to this problem that is environmental, healthy,
economical, community
oriented, and quite feasible.

Using bicycles is a better form of transportation for all activists,
tourists, and perhaps even Palestinian commuters primarily because of the
roadblocks.=20
Bicycles are not restricted from crossing roadblocks designed for to
prevent vehicular traffic.=20

detailed ideas:

All genders can participate.=20

Internationals would be encouraged to bring their own bicycles to Palestine.
Training would be provided similar to that already given in ISM. Affinity
groups would be created, and groups would ride towards different
destinations.=20
Groups would stay in towns for a few days, before moving on to other areas.

Primary objectives for the use of Critical Mass within ISM would be to talk
with soldiers about desertion, checkpoint watch, and to increase
communication with a
larger geographic range of the Palestinian population than is now possible
for ISMers on foot and using vehicular transportation.=20

It may be possible to attempt to bring camping gear in order to camp in
uninhabited land when affinity groups are between villages. This has not
been tried before,
but with the limited resources of the Israeli Army, most likely camping
groups will go unnoticed.=20
email: faied_zeiad@??? for all of the above mentioned communication.=

Implimentation of Palestinian Critical Mass could possible begin as early
as January of 2004.

Any suggestions, comments, or questions about Palestinian Critical Mass
would be appreciated.=20
Nothing is yet set in stone, and those working on this project hope to
begin a dialogue about it's possibilites before any action takes place.
