But isn't this technically what happens?

If the emails I store are encrypted after I have unlocked my storage,
wouldn't they be unreadable (not in cleartext)?

Unlocking also does decryption in this case, though nothing has been
moved to a new location, it seems.

Yes, and as much as I prefer the visual composition of the button text +
icon, it seems that the most clear mental model comes from the
disassociation (uncoupling) of the action and the state.

The "outside" ones tested with the clearest mental model of the intended
experience.

I have reservations about the compositional balance of the icon floating
to the right of the 'Encrypted Storage' section label text but it may
fair the best in the field.
