So the problem in your ISO image is that /etc/hostname gets all executable bits set, which shouldn't happen. I've filed this as: https://labs.riseup.net/code/issues/13623

nock, it'd be interesting to see if you can reproduce this issue again. So, can you please retry building Tails 3.1 in the exact same environment?
