More parking places for bikes posted 08/08/2007 at 17:38 h. This year 5,772 new places had been created, bringing the total number of public parking places to 13,648 In recent months, Barcelona has substantially increased the number of public parking places for bikes.
With the aim of encouraging sustainable mobility around the city, combined with the launch of the public bike system Bicing, the City Council is set to introduce 7,000 new places during the course of the year.
In line with this target, by the beginning of this month, 5,772 of the 7,000 planned had already been installed in the various city districts.
The operation involves placing long bars, which the bikes can be attached to, in strategic locations, such as near public buildings, bus and tram stops, train and underground stations, shopping centres and so on.
The increase in parking places for bikes available in public spaces now means the city has a total of 13,468.
Once all 7,000 planned for this year have been installed, the overall total will rise from 7,696 in 2006 to 14,696.
